Little Angels formed in Scarborough, England in 1984, under the name Mr Thrud. Toby Jepson (vocals) and Mark Plunkett (bass) were the founding members who had cut their teeth in school band, ZEUS in 1984. Just over a year later, they formed an embryonic MR. THRUD along with Bruce John Dickinson (guitar), recruiting his brother Jimmy Dickinson (keyboards) by the end of the year. Having been spotted by manager Kevin Nixon , they completed the line-up with Dave Hooper, appearing on Channel 4’s ‘Famous 15 minutes’ on the 20TH November 1987 as THE LITTLE ANGELS . They signed at the time with York-based company Powerstation Records (co-run by their manager) and already issued an EP on it. They repacked the material along with some new tracks later in the year as the mini-LP ‘Too Posh To Mosh’. Eventually out-growing the local scene supporting bands such as Tesla, Guns ’n’ Roses and Chrome Molly, the band signed to Polydor Records and supported Yngwie Malmsteen and Cinderella on British and US dates before issuing a single, ‘90° In The Shade’. A year later in 1989, Michael Lee joined the band to replace Dave Hopper. Little Angels began to achieve national success. They finally delivered a full-length album, ‘Don’t Prey For Me’, a promising set which won the band a solid core of UK fans. Following in the footsteps of classic 80’s Brit-Rock, the group’s effervescent, musclebound sound took occasional sidesteps into American acoustic balladry. Their first taste of major chart action was provided early in 1990, when a track from the aforementioned album ‘Kickin’ Up Dust’, hit the UK Top 50. Following a clutch of infectious hit singles, The Little Angels utilised songwriter Jim Vallance to arrive at a smoother, more overtly Americanised sound with ‘The Young Gods’ album of early 1991. His approach worked commercial wonders, spawning hit after hit with ‘Boneyard’, ‘Product of The Working Class’, ‘Young Gods’ and ‘I Ain’t Gonna Cry’. Lee was sacked from Little Angels during the Young Gods tour, after it was discovered he had auditioned for The Cult behind their backs. He went on to play the full Ceremony world tour.
Lee was replaced by Mark Richardson, who filled in for him on several tour dates, before taking his place officially during the recording of the band's third album, Jam.
